How does supporting a climate positive certified company benefit you?
Climate change is one of the biggest challenges facing our planet, and it’s something that affects us all. As individuals, we may feel powerless in the face of such a global crisis, but there are steps we can take that actually make a difference. One easy step you can make is choosing to support 100% renewable, climate positive certified electricity. Hello, that’s Ecotricity!
For those who are unfamiliar with the term ‘climate positive certified’ it simply means having a positive impact on the climate.
To achieve our Toitū climate positive certification for our electricity product, we measure the emissions associated with our full value chain, set science-based reduction plans for the short and long term, and go beyond net carbonzero by offsetting remaining emissions at 125%, as well as contributing to additional environmental and social projects. We source our Toitū climate positive certified electricity from renewable wind and hydro generation sources, and also have a substantial base of solar customers who provide an additional supply of Toitū climate positive certified electricity when their excess electricity is exported to the national grid. The Toitū climate positive certification is the most comprehensive carbon measurement programme in New Zealand and is designed to help businesses take meaningful, science-led climate action. So, how does this benefit you?
You reduce your own carbon footprint
By supporting a company that is committed to reducing its carbon footprint, you’re indirectly reducing your own. When you purchase Ecotricity’s climate positive certified electricity, you’re supporting energy that has been generated only from renewable sources, wind, hydro and solar, which naturally have zero carbon emissions. This means that you’re reducing the carbon emissions associated with your own energy use, which is good news for the planet.
You support a cleaner, healthier environment
Investing in renewable energy and implementing energy-efficient practices doesn’t just reduce carbon emissions; it also helps to create a cleaner, healthier environment. Traditional fossil fuel power plants can emit a range of pollutants, including sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter, which can have negative impacts on both the environment and human health. By supporting a climate positive certified energy company, you’re helping to reduce these harmful emissions and promote a cleaner, healthier environment for everyone.
You help to drive change
Your support sends a powerful message to your friends, family and others around you, plus other companies and to policymakers, that you care about the environment and want to see real action taken to address climate change. By telling the people around you about the importance of supporting renewable energy and green companies you are helping to open up the conversation for change. It can become a snowball effect, where you’re helping to drive change and create a demand for more sustainable practices across all industries.
