We are a small, but fast growing team fighting the good fight. Proudly the only Toitū climate positive certified electricity provider in New Zealand, and in 2022 the fastest growing retailer. We’re on a mission to provide Kiwi families and Kiwi businesses with 100% renewable and sustainable power.

How it all began

After living in the Netherlands for 2 years and following the wind farm developments there, Al Yates (CEO) returned to New Zealand in 2003 and founded Wind Farm Group with the mission of developing wind farms in New Zealand.

At the same time Al registered retail brand Airtricity to prepare for a retail offering once the wind farms were developed. The Ecotricity Gentricity brands were added to the stable.

Living wage employer

We value our staff and want to ensure they’re in a financial position to enjoy life and support their families. All employees at Ecotricity receive the living wage or above.

Our staff are the battery pack for our business and we value their hard work and commitment. So, we do what’s best to create a safe, fun and fair work environment for the entire team. In conjunction with becoming a living wage employer, we also conduct a pay review twice a year, an annual work culture survey and monthly social events.

We also provide our own EV or Ebike rebate to encourage staff to lower their emissions.

Our people

Sustainability is core to our company, all employees have a responsibility to ensure we meet our climate positive commitments.

At Ecotricity we strive to be the best in the electricity industry with regards to environmental and social impacts.

Flexible working arrangements: Our growing team of 45 have adapted to a hybrid working environment where employees can choose to work from the office or at home.
Carbon friendly: We are Toitū climate positive certified as a company which means we measure and offset any carbon emissions the business produces.
Electrified: We have a fully electric fleet of corporate vehicles, plus charging stations at our car park.
Subsidised ebikes: Our employees can choose to purchase an Ebike or EV for work or pleasure in which we partially fund.
