Coastal Solar started after they spent more than 15 years in the RV industry (Family business since 2001). They have been installing solar panels since the beginning, and in 2011 they had the idea of doing residential, but they needed a partner. As things developed, they were aligning with some of the bigger solar supplier companies in NZ, they decided to fit a system to their homes. Eventually, they took a step further by reaching out to a friend as a suitable partner to start and expand the business. In 2017 when they kicked it off by fitting a system to a neighbours house. A year later they became a limited company, and they were using contractors to help with each install. Another year or later they started contract installing for SolarZero, this helped them grow in size but also officially as well in terms of being professional and keeping best practices. They employed labour, office staff and qualified electricians. In 2025 they are looking at apprentices to go to the next level.

They are now diversified, installing large and small ‘Off-grid’ systems, standard grid tied and hybrid residential systems and now medium to large sized commercial systems.
